MotionLab.Berlin’s Launch Of Their Next Early-Stage Hardtech Startup Programme.

The spirits were high, with smiles and laughter, as we arrived into MotionLab.Berlin’s event space in Berlin on a pleasant Summer’s day.

It’s quite a striking spot, in an old factory, and the event area is bordered by a double-decker bus.

Whilst Mobility is a big theme here, and with past successes like ONO Mobility, there’s good reason. However, today has a different focus to the usual Berlin apps, websites and services we’re more familiar with.

Tayla (MotionLab.Berlin, Head Of Startup Success Team) reminds us that apps will not save the world, and Fridtjof Gustavs (MotionLab.Berlin, Founder) tells us about the need for us to change how we produce things, and what Germany’s current carbon emissions in his keynote, are before a quick pizza/beer break.

We’re then treated to the insight from 4 existing projects, and invited to apply to the next intake.

Pitch 1: Extracting Carbon with NeoCarbon

Providing lower cost competition to Direct Air Cooling (DAC) with cooling towers. Potential market of 300k EU cooling towers, and potential capture of 1 GT or CO2 per year. Currently building their MVP. More information: neocarbon.tech

Pitch 2: Balcony Solar saying ‘screw you’ to electricity price rises with Mister Balcony.

With worries over energy security rife in Germany, it’s great to know that there’s been strong interest in this project, which had gained over 16 million views on TikTok showing how simple the balcony solar solution is to put in-place by screwing it on. Andrea’s presentation was self-referencing. For now they’re sold out, but soon will be taking orders again at misterbalcony.com

Pitch 3: Gym Gear that doesn’t hurt you with Caliring

The last thing you want is an injury from exercising. Fantastic exercise hoops from Caliring go a way to solving this issue.

Project Pitch 4: Identifying wires with NFC with Clippits

Where do all the wires go? Well, Clippits can help you solve this. Cheaper than RFID solutions, or employing someone to write labels on wires, they have NFC enabled attachments for your cables.

MotionLab.Berlin offers 100k

The next cohort of the MakeUP Industrial Tech Programme has 100k (with 50k for services) for their 8 month programme managed by Marianna Egressy. Programme starts in Autumn.

Question: Was there an equity ask from the startups?
Answer: No equity fee was asked from them.
